A dynamic community dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding men's mental health. A space designed for men to share their experiences, seek support, and find resources to improve their mental well-being.
Hello and welcome!
My name is Kusha Abbasi, and I am the proud founder of Mental Health Mavericks. My lifelong journey with mental health challenges has profoundly shaped who I am and inspired the creation of this group.
I lived in four countries by the age of 14. Constant change, coupled with verbal, emotional, and physical bullying, and the challenge of making new friends, left me feeling isolated and depressed. At 15, I experienced my first severe panic attack, a terrifying but pivotal moment that led me to seek help. With the support of my parents, I began therapy and was prescribed medication for anxiety and depression. Since then, I have worked with numerous therapists and doctors. Over the years, my mental health has become an increasingly important priority in my life. I've been discovering more about myself and exploring various ways to enhance my mental well-being. One of my proudest achievements is remaining sober since January 2021.
Throughout my life, I've lived in seven countries as a student, coach, teacher, and seeker. I have also visited a few other countries for a shorter period of time. My deep interest in the world and its people led me to earn a Bachelor's degree in Geography and a Master's degree in Humanities. My most recent international journey took me to India in 2022, where I spent five months in the Himalayas. During this transformative time, I engaged with people from all walks of life, including spiritual leaders. I read extensively, and embarked on a path of self-discovery. I filmed my first mini-documentary, interviewing Babas in Varanasi, and earned my international meditation teaching credential.
I am not a doctor, therapist, or a religious man. I am simply a passionate advocate for men's mental health, committed to developing the resources so desperately needed today. As the founder of Mental Health Mavericks, my mission is to create a supportive and understanding community where individuals can connect, share their experiences, and grow together. My personal experiences with mental health challenges have given me unique insights and deep empathy for those who are struggling. I am dedicated to making Mental Health Mavericks a space where everyone feels valued, heard, and empowered to achieve their fullest potential.
